The Apple iPhone 14 Plus is now available to customers who have pre-ordered the handset. Here’s a quick look.

It’s been over a month since the iPhone 14 lineup was unveiled to the world and so far, things have looked amazing. For the first time in a long time, it is the iPhone 14 Pro products that are in greater demand than the standard models, thanks to the growth of the “real” generation. The standard iPhone 14 is considered an upgrade to the iPhone 13 – it even has the same chipset as last year’s iPhone 13 Pro. So, the only non-Pro variant of the iPhone 14 series we’re all waiting for is the iPhone 14 Plus.

Yes, Apple has finally returned to the “Plus” size iPhones with this year’s iPhone 14 series. Downsized to the “Mini”, the iPhone 14 Plus is the exact opposite of the phone it replaces. It is as big as the iPhone 14 Pro Max but has the same class as the iPhone 14. Starting at Rs. 89,990, isn’t this the iPhone 14 Pro you must buy? We’ll take a few weeks to answer that question but for now, let’s take a quick look at the iPhone 14 Plus.

iPhone 14 Plus Quick View: What’s New

The biggest change here is the size. Compared to the size of the iPhone 14, the iPhone 14 Plus is large. It has a large 6.7-inch display and that means the phone feels like a phablet. The great size, however, is not accompanied by any light weight. Yes, the iPhone 14 Plus is heavy by any means but at 203 grams, it feels heavier than the 240 gram iPhone 14 Pro Max. This is where the Aluminum frame helps.

Other than the size, the iPhone 14 Plus looks like every other iPhone we’ve seen in the past. In the first few hours, the build quality is just as amazing as all the other non-Pro iPhones we’ve seen so far. The back glass is glossy and I love the Purple shade on this. The diagonal iPhone 13-esque camera helps with the fact that this is a Plus, while the display icon on the front is a reminder that you’re still only human in Apple’s universe.

As for the rest of the package, you still get a USB-C to Lightning cable in the box, and some paperwork. Yes, the Apple logo is there too. We also have the Purple Silicon MagSafe case for the iPhone 14 Plus and it has the same shade of Purple to match the phone.

iPhone 14 Plus features at a glance

After the first launch, the iPhone 14 Plus reminds you of its position in the iPhone 14 lineup. The 6.7-inch display is Apple’s Super Retina XDR OLED display but it falls short of the standard 60Hz refresh rate. Coming from the ProMotion display on the iPhone 14 Pro Max, it feels aggressive and fun. In fact, coming from any modern Android phone, the 60Hz refresh rate is not pleasing to the eyes. And No, none of that “Apple’s 60Hz is better than Android’s 120Hz” thing here – the animations are fluid but keen eyes can always notice, especially during unlocking.

Running the show here is the A15 Bionic chip from last year’s iPhone 13 Pro, and so far, it feels just as fast as the A16 Bionic on the Pro variant. I think that this chip will show only differences in the application standards and platforms, with 6GB RAM helping with multitasking. Much to note here, it seems.

The cameras have received an upgrade from the iPhone 13 – the rear cameras are borrowed from the iPhone 13 Pro while the front camera has an Autofocus lens. The Photonic Engine is also here and we will see how much you lose compared to the iPhone 14 Pro Max cameras.

Battery life is where Apple makes big promises and that’s what we’re looking forward to. Best battery life of any iPhone? We will see how he handles the daily stuff. Will it beat the iPhone 14 Pro Max?

First things first

The iPhone 14 Plus is the only premium iPhone for those who want to stay within a budget of Rs. 1 lakh and don’t miss out on the big screen show. In the coming days, I will test the phone and note the “better battery life”. Stay tuned for our full review.
