Charlottetown, PEI – Holland College is teaming up with the PEI KOed Boxing Academy to host the Watt Memorial Cup at the McMillan Center in Charlottetown on October 15th.

The event is a tribute to Stephen and Darren Watts, who were both competitive boxers in PEI during their time Stephen is a three-time Canadian champion while Darren is a two-time Golden Gloves champion.

The Watt Memorial Cup will serve as a test before the 2023 Canada Games in PEI and will feature the best male and female boxers from across the seas, representing 13 different clubs.

Competitors from 12 to 30 years old, in weights from 36 to 91 kg.

There are currently 13 games scheduled for the evening, which are subject to change.

“We’re in for a night of fast-paced and intense action as our revitalized boxing community prepares for the 2023 Canada Games,” said Sport PEI Administrative Coordinator Jeff Perry.

“It’s been incredible to see first-hand the physical, mental and technical progress our top boxers have made over the past few months through their training as they prepare for the pinnacle of the Canada Games here on home soil.”

The event will be held at the MacMillan Center at 323 Grafton on the Prince of Wales College campus, with doors opening at 6:30pm and games beginning at 7:00pm.
