Surrey, BC – British Columbia’s Independent Investigations Office (IIO) is investigating the death of a man and the serious injuries of a woman following a police-involved shooting near Keremeos .

Information provided by the RCMP indicates that at approximately 7:45 a.m. on September 13, 2022, there was an interaction between police and a male and female in the 4100 block of Highway 3.

During the interaction, shots were fired by police. Both the man and the woman suffered gunshot wounds.

The woman was taken to hospital with a life-threatening injury and the man was pronounced dead.

The IIO was made aware of the incident shortly after it occurred and deployed investigators to the scene to begin an investigation.

The IIO is British Columbia’s independent civilian police oversight body. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious injury or death, whether or not there are allegations of wrongdoing.
