Surrey, BC – British Columbia’s Independent Investigations Office (IIO) is investigating a fatal shooting incident involving an officer in Surrey.

Information reported by the RCMP indicates that on the morning of April 1, 2022, the police received several reports of different incidents involving a man who was allegedly in possession of a weapon. It is unclear at this time if the same man was involved in all of the reported incidents.

Officers located a male near the intersection of 142a Street and 87a Avenue who they believe was the person involved in at least one of the previous reports to police. It is reported that there was an altercation and the man was shot and seriously injured.

Emergency health services responded and the man was taken to hospital for treatment. Despite rescue measures, he was later declared deceased.

The IIO asks anyone with relevant information about the incident to contact the toll-free helpline at 1-855-446-8477 or via the contact form on the website.
