By Brian Witter: Interim WBC junior middleweight champion Sebastian “The Towering Inferno” Fundara says he wants to knock out undisputed champion Jermell Charlo when the time comes to fight him.

With Charlo (35-1-1, 19 KOs) only fighting once a year, Fundara (19-0-1, 13 KOs) likely won’t be able to challenge him for the undisputed crown until 2024 or 2025. because next year, he will defend against WBO mandatory Tim Tszyu.

Depending on which mandatory is next, Fundara could wait until 2025 if Jermel doesn’t change his once-a-year battle routine.

At that time, Charlo will be 35 years old, giving the opportunity to bring back the dangerous 6’6″ Fundora. It’s best for Jermel to deal with Fundara as soon as possible, as it will gradually become more difficult as long as he waits to put this difficult match away.

Fundara defends his interim WBC 154-lb title against Carlos Ocampo (34-1, 22 KOs) this Saturday night in the main event on Showtime at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California.

“That’s what we work for. You go in there with a champion and you know you’re already two rounds behind, so you can’t leave it up to the judges,” Sebastian Fandora told Fighthype about him looking to knock out Jermell Charlo.

“You have to go out there and win it in a fashion where everyone knows you’re a winner. The only fashion I see winning is if we get a decisive win or a knockout. This is the only sure way.

“It’s good for the fans; good for everyone. Maybe we will get the true respect we deserve. This is how we must win this fight [against Jermell Charlo].

“I don’t feel the pressure from it. I feel like it helps me,” Fundara said when asked if he feels the pressure of having to win every time. “This is what they expect. You can look at it like it’s a kind of pressure, something that you don’t lose your o. It’s more motivation that, ‘You have to put on a good show. For fans put on a good show’ and that’s it.

“Talented fighter, very disciplined, champion,” Fundara said of Jermell Charlo. “I like to fight with him. That’s my competitive side in boxing. Whoever comes in my weight class, of course we want that fight.

“Of course we don’t need to name names because it happens. If you are the best, we want to fight you, of course.

“It is clear. Everyone wants to do that in this sport. To look at his career, you have to admit he’s one of the greats right now,” Fundara said of Jermell.
